Interstate 83 extension in MD-VA-NC
The Greensboro / Baltimore Corridor .
A section of Interstate 83 that
runs into Baltimore
would become spur I-183.
This is a proposal for extending I-83 from north of Baltimore,MD southwestward across a new Potomac river crossing east of Leesburg,VA.
The I-83 corridor would run southward
on the eastern side of the Blue ridge mountains by way of U.S. 29
crossing I-64 south of Charlottesville continuing to
Lynchburg,Danville then ending at the eastern loop of the new
Greensboro Beltway at I-85/I-40. Some of
U.S. 29 would be used.
See links below.
This would add another North-South
Interstate highway in between
I-81,I-95 making it safer for travel on Interstates 81,95 .
Since I-81 & I-95 does not connect
with Greensboro,Danville,
Lynchburg,Charlottesville,Culpeper,this
would allow traffic
to bypass around gridlocked areas of Suburban Maryland,
Washington DC,Northern Virginia.
Travelers wouldn't have to travel
though the congested areas of
Richmond, Petersburg, & Roanoke to use I-81 & I-95 in the
region
to travel north or south.
